A Healthy Skincare Routine Saved My Life!
A healthy skincare routine saved my life. Well, not literally, but it saved me from continuous painful acne breakouts on my chin and acne bumps riddling my forehead. Not only did I have the wrong skincare products, but I was using them wrong! UGH!
A TikTok in late 2019 made me reassess my skin care situation. I watched this girl on the screen prod through her routine. It appeared complex, but this is apparently necessary for our skin! She displayed her products—makeup remover, face wash, micellar water, toner, AHA resurfacing serum, moisturizer, and wrinkle creams. I was SHOCKED—my routine was completely different! My ritual involved using make-up remover wipes, call it good, and hop into bed.
OMMMGGGGGGGG! THOSE WIPES WERE JUST SMEARING MY MAKEUP AROUND AND CAUSING INFLAMMATION! I quickly realized my routine was causing me serious problems. So I tried this content creator’s routine, and my acne cleared up like magic. My skin was finally vibrant!
18 months later, I only suffer from acne when I get lazy and skip these steps. Acne bubbles up during serious stress as well, but that’s it! I can’t believe I struggled for years against ACNE, and my face suffered from constant irritation. Let me share with you the routine that saved my skin!
First, I start with a makeup remover like this one. I DO NOT USE MAKEUP REMOVER WIPES. Opt for a balm like Clinique Take the Day OFF because it doesn’t inflame skin and it seamlessly removes makeup without tugging. Apply it to your face, rinse with water, and watch the makeup dissolve away.
Second, wash your face with a facewash compatible with your skin type. I prefer Cerave Hydrating Cream to Foam Cleanser. It’s affordable and comfortable on my skin. I never suffer from irritation or dry skin after using it. A must have for your skincare routine.
Third, I use soft cotton pads wetted with Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water to GENTLY wipe my face and remove any leftover makeup. There is generally a decent amount of residual makeup after the balm and facewash.
Fourth, I dab this Paula’s Choice toner for normal-to-dry skin all over my face. But remember: after rinsing your face with water, you need to tone. Water knocks the pH of your skin off balance, so get it back to par with a proper toner. I’d recommend this Paula’s Choice toner for oily skin. This toner is amazing!
Fifth, I use this Farmacy Honeymoon Glow AHA Hydrating Night Serum. It tingles a bit, but I believe this product helped heal the acne scars on my chin—I had residual red spots from pimples that cankered my chin. No more, though! I don’t use it every night, maybe 2-3 times a week.
Sixth, I apply Dramatically Different Clinique Lotion to moisturize my face. I’m partial to this lotion because I’ve used this moisturizer for a long time without any negative reaction. I’d also recommend Cerave PM lotion as it’s lightweight and moisturizes great! Adding this to your skincare routine will help keep your skin looking young and vibrant.
Lastly, I apply Murad Revitalixir Serum to my forehead, under my eyes, and neck. This product helps combat wrinkles! I love this serum, but I don’t use it every night. I’ve had the same bottle for over a year now.
Along with all of these magical products, don’t forget to religiously apply sunscreen every single day! The sun’s UV rays not only damage our skin, but they also age our skin! YIKES! I use this Clinique Super City Block Sunscreen every morning! It doesn’t have the gooky feeling of normal sunscreens and has a broad spectrum SPF 40 to protect the face and neck!
These products are the secret to my healthy, vibrant complexion! I wish I had known earlier how to take care of my skin. This routine would have saved me from painful breakouts and embarrassing bumps on my face. BUT the past is in the past, and I won’t be looking back anytime soon!
