I love tacos, so let me teach you how to make the best taco sauce:
Creamy Cilantro Lime Sauce
YUM! This is my personal favorite taco sauce. It’s easy to make, creamy, and delicious on salads and burritos! My inspiration for this sauce comes from the Chick-fil-A Cilantro Lime Sauce. I love Chick-fil-A, and I load up on their sauces every time I go there. But I’ve moved to the country, and with no Chick-fil-A for miles, I have to make my own sauce.
This homemade taco sauce is so simple that I make it every time I make Meal Prep Black Bean Burritos or my Black Bean Tacos! I drizzle the sauce on the taco, inside the taco, or I just dip the taco into the sauce for each bite. It bumps the taco experience up a notch!
What are the ingredients for cilantro lime sauce?
The ingredients are simple: cilantro, lime juice, salt, seeded jalapeño, olive oil, sour cream, taco seasoning. That’s it!
I taste the sauce after each mix to see if it needs any additional ingredients. If the lime flavor is overpowering, I add salt to tone it down. If the cilantro doesn’t pack a punch, I add cilantro leaves. To make the sauce creamier, I add sour cream. For a runnier sauce, add water.
How do I make a vegan taco sauce?
To convert this into a vegan taco sauce, use avocado in place of sour cream. This makes the taco sauce extra creamy without the sour taste. Adjust to your personal preference! But this is how I make my taco sauce:
I blend all the ingredients together in a small food processor. The portions are as following:
3/4 cup sour cream
1/3 cup olive oil
Juice of 1 lime
1 jalapeno, seeded
1/2 bunch cilantro, stems removed
1 teaspoon taco seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
After ingredients are mixed, I adjust the flavor based on my preference for the day: for a tangy lime sauce, I add more lime; if the lime is too much, I add salt, etc.
Let’s get mixing!
